Position: Retail Associate, Donation Center/Full Time

Classification: Non-exempt/hourly

Reports to: Donation Center Manager and Assistant Manager, Store Manager

Objectives: Work as part of a cohesive, supportive team to facilitate the sale of quality used goods to community, while offering excellent customer and donor service. Assist in building and maintaining a positive workplace environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Sorting and pricing

  • Process donations, including sorting, hanging, tagging.
  • Inspects donated goods to distinguish quality while checking for holes, tears, stains, breakage, odor, etc.
  • Maintains high quality and high quantity standards while working at a quick and steady pace.
  • Place articles of clothing on the appropriate hanger and organize them on Z racks by category.
  • Efficiently and safely transports items, carts, racks, and bins to and from sales floor.
  • Sort donations for immediate sale, storage, recycling, or waste.
  • Price donations fairly and consistently, in accordance with LISTEN pricing policies.

Merchandising

  • Plan for special sales by reserving and organization storage of inventory.
  • Be knowledgeable of daily, weekly and monthly production and sales goals.
  • Organize donated goods following category guidelines.

Donor Relations

  • Greet, thank and assist donors, putting donations in appropriate bins.
  • Provide donors with tax receipts for their charitable contributions.
  • Provide clear and consistent information to the public about donating to LISTEN.

Facilities, Safety and Security

  • Follow Donation Center procedures regarding inventory control, safety, and security.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area for self and staff.
  • Stock, straighten, rotate, and maintain goods in the donation area and sales floor.
  • Safeguards company property and personal information from harm, damage, or theft.
  • Reports any incidents of theft, misappropriation, unethical/inappropriate behavior, or unauthorized possession of company property to a member of management, Human Resources, or Executive Director.

Other

  • Participate in staff meetings and training.
  • Other duties at the discretion of the Retail Store Manager, Retail Director, or Executive Director.


Compensation: $16.11/hr.

Benefits: Full-time employees are eligible to enroll in the benefits (medical, dental, vision) after 60 days of employment, and 401k after 90 days of employment, with a Company Match. Employees are also eligible for accrual of Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays.

Minimum Requirements

  • Positive, compassionate attitude and strong desire to help others.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Responsible, respectful approach to the job and the team.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting.
  • Willingness to provide information for background check processing.

Experience: Previous experience working in retail and customer service is required.

Cognitive Skills: Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and donors. The employee is frequently required to use written communication and is occasionally required to use math skills. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential to job functions. Ability to diplomatically deal with demanding situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to be on their feet, walking and standing. The employee is frequently required to reach, handle (hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hand or hands), finger (picking, pinching, fine manipulation). The employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, climb stairs, push, and pull. The employee is rarely required to crouch, kneel, crawl, balance, twist, stretch and sit. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move between 25-50lbs and minimally required to lift and/or move between 50-100+lbs.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be continuously exposed to noise and will occasionally be exposed to fumes (cleaning solutions) and dust (from sweeping and dusting). The employee will also experience various seasonal temperatures while working with donors bringing their donations from outside to inside the sorting area. The sorting area has some environmental control but is exposed to outside temperatures when doors are open.
